At about the 1930s, a small group of people had started a gathering of Christians at Waterloo. Some of the early people who started the WAM Church in the village were “breakaway” from the CMS Mission. Others were people who willingly joined the WAMC as it started its missionary campaign in the village. Like Johnson Memorial, those who started the church had no building of their own. Not until their plight was sympathetically received by a man who was a non-member of the Church, i.e. the WAMC, in he person of Pa Bushel.
Pa bushel, on seeing the situation of the members, offered a piece of land at Lord Street to the members. The site was called “Bushel Place”. A small stone church was in the process of being constructed for worship but was later abandoned for very obvious reasons.
The basement of the manse of the Huntingdon Connexion was used to hold services. This went on for a fairly long time as plans were being set to put up another structure for worship purpose. The Rev. S.P.L.K. Campbell-Coker, during his tenure as the Catechist, worked so hard and by 1971/72, he and some others, including the late Rev. F.F. Thompson, Rev. Dixon Baker and Rev. David Shodeke, had the job completed. A new church was built and opened by the late Rev. I.S.T. Fewry, General Superintendent.
Rev. Friday Foh Thompson was by the the Dispenser in charge of the Government Health Centre at Waterloo. Pa David Williams (later David Shodeke), Mama Kessebeh, Mama Peninah Williams, Mrs. Dele Thompson and George Thompson (all deceased). Were among those who labored to put up the building which is now standing at Bushel Place. Lest I forget, the resounding effort of Mr. Jacob Benoni Davies and J. A. Dan-Davies (who later became a Minister of the Connexion and rose to the enviable position of General Superintendent).
